Electrical courses popularity could be stoked by affordable home construction

More technicians could decide to sign up for electrical courses if a new plan for affordable housing goes ahead.

Reporting for the Guardian, Nicholas Watt explained that Ed Balls intends to make the construction of 100,000 affordable houses one of the cornerstones of his bid to become the leader of the Labour party.

The initiative is sure to create plenty of jobs in the UK construction industry, with technicians who have completed electrical courses likely to be some of the beneficiaries, since their skills will be required during the process.

Mr Watt noted that Mr Balls intends to fund this £6 billion scheme with a recent windfall enjoyed by the government, after it borrowed £12 billion less than it had planned during 2009/10.

This week, the Scotsman reported that 500 affordable homes are set to be built by a Leith housing association, including several on the site of a former church.
